Vikings Acquire Joshua Dobbs From Cardinals

Oct 31, 2023 2:20 PM

The Minnesota Vikings have acquired Joshua Cobbs from the Arizona Cardinals for a sixth round pick. Arizona also sent a conditional seventh-round pick that can become a sixth-rounder based on Dobbs' play time.

Minnesota needed a quarterback after losing Kirk Cousins on Sunday to a torn Achilles.

Dobbs has started the Cardinals' first eight games and has thrown for 1,569 yards with eight touchdowns and five interceptions. The Cardinals are 1-7 this season.

Reports: Clayton Tune Expected To Start For Cardinals

Oct 31, 2023 7:52 AM

Jonathan Gannon said after Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens that Joshua Dobbs would get another start at quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, but the coach appears to have changed course.

On Monday, Gannon said that either Kyler Murray or rookie Clayton Tune would get the start. He said the decision was based on watching the film of Sunday's loss.

Murray has not played in a game since tearing his ACL last season.

According to multiple reports, however, the Cardinals are planning to have Clayton Tune start against the Cleveland Browns.

Jimmy Garoppolo: Raiders' Deflating Loss 'Starts With Me'

Oct 31, 2023 7:46 AM

Jimmy Garoppolo took the blame after the Las Vegas Raiders' 26-14 loss to the Detroit Lions on Monday night.

The Lions outgained the Raiders 486-157 at Ford Field.

"You have good days and bad days," Garoppolo said. "Today was a bad day, there's no sugarcoating it. It is what it is. So, I've just got to play better. Myself, I have to play better. A bunch of little things that will solve a lot of problems.

"It starts with me. We've got to be better, and we will be."

Davante Adams had just one catch on seven targets for 11 yards, and his 14% catch rate was tied for the worst reception percentage in a game with five-plus targets in his career.

"Honestly, I don't know what to say at this moment," Adams said. "I truly don't. I wish I had the words to say something that's not going to get blown up in the media and taken out of context, so I'm going to just, I truly, I just don't know."

Derrick Henry: I'm Happy To Be A Titan

Oct 30, 2023 9:41 AM

Derrick Henry is in the final year of his contract, but a report over the weekend suggested that the Tennessee Titans have no plans to trade the running back prior to Tuesday's deadline.

Henry ran for 101 yards in the Titans' 28-23 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

"I'm a Titan, and I'm happy to be a Titan," Henry said after the victory. "I am going to do everything I can to help this organization continue to win."

Rookie quarterback Will Levis threw four touchdowns in Sunday’s win and that makes the future look a bit brighter than it did heading into the game.

Tyreek Hill More Than Halfway To 2,000 Yards Through Eight Games

Oct 30, 2023 9:37 AM

Tyreek Hill is more than halfway to his goal of 2,000 receiving yards this season through eight games.

The Miami Dolphins wide receiver surpassed 1,000 yards in the team's win over the New England Patriots on Sunday.

He's the first player to eclipse the mark this season and the fourth player in NFL history to do so in just eight games.

"It feels great. God is great. I've been calling my shot since I came in this league," Hill said. "A lot of people doubted me, saying I couldn't do this and do that, but it's all about believing in yourself."

At a rate of 126.8 yards per game, Hill is on pace for 2,155 receiving yards this season -- which would set an NFL record and make him the first 2,000-yard receiver in league history.

Steelers' Diontae Johnson Rips Officials After Loss To Jaguars

Oct 30, 2023 9:32 AM

Diontae Johnson expressed frustration with the officiating crew following the Pittsburgh Steelers' loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoon.

The wide receiver was especially upset about an offside call on right guard Isaac Seumalo that negated a 55-yard Chris Boswell field goal. Boswell's ensuing attempt after the penalty sailed wide right.

If the field goal stood, it would've cut the Jaguars' lead to three going into the half.

"Refs were just killing us the whole game," Johnson said. "The same refs we had at training camp. I didn't like the refs today. At the end of the day, we can't keep complaining about the refs. Like Coach [Mike Tomlin] say, we can't worry about the refs, whatever. But everybody's different.

"I didn't like the refs today. They must've got paid good today or something, but they blew -- that field goal, that hurt us coming into the half. We needed that."

Johnson also expressed frustration with the inconsistency of roughing the passer calls, including a non-call when Kenny Pickett was knocked to the ground by defensive end Adam Gotsis with 17 seconds remaining in the first half.

"They was calling some stupid stuff," Johnson said. "They should get fined for calling bad, making worse, terrible calls and stuff like that. That's how pissed I am. They cost us the game. I don't care what nobody say. They cost us the game."

Packers, Rashan Gary Agree Upon Four-Year, $107.5M Extension

Oct 30, 2023 9:28 AM

The Green Bay Packers have agreed to a four-year, $107.5 million contract extension with linebacker Rashan Gary.

A first-round pick in 2019, Gary had been playing this season on the $10.892 million fifth-year option of his rookie contract.

The new deal includes $96 million in new money, including a $34,646,928 signing bonus, according to a source. The total value of the deal, which runs through the 2027 season, could be worth up to $107,532,706 including all bonuses.

Gary was in line for an extension well before this until he tore the ACL in his left knee last November.

Kyle Shanahan: Answers For Sliding 49ers Already On Team

Oct 30, 2023 12:17 AM

It was around this time last year that the 49ers found themselves in a difficult spot heading into their bye week.

The Chiefs had just beaten them soundly at Levi's Stadium to drop to 3-4 on the season. But the biggest solution to that team's problems was already in the building. The Niners acquired running back Christian McCaffrey in a blockbuster trade a couple days earlier with the idea that he could spark a second-half run. He did, and the Niners ripped off 10 straight wins to close the season.

Though the Niners are likely to be active in the search for outside help, coach Kyle Shanahan made it clear Sunday afternoon that another McCaffrey isn't walking through that door. Which means improvement must largely come from within, a process that will begin with plenty of self-reflection over the bye week before the Niners play the Jaguars on Nov. 12.
